Booking a Smear Test
Cervicalcheck.ie is the National Program to prevent Cervical Cancer. A Smear Test is a quick, painless test that helps detect pre-cancer cells that could in future cause you trouble. HPV virus, which is responsible for 90% of Cervical Cancers, is now routinely tested as part of your smear.
Smear tests are free of charge when you are due your routine smear, and/or with a letter from Cervical Check. If you are unsure when your next smear is due, check online here.
Smear test appointments are available to book with Nurse Ann or with any of our female GPs. To book your smear test appointment, please call the surgery on 053 91 22524. When you are making your appointment please let the receptionist know that you are booking a smear as this is are extra details needed.
Please have the following details to hand before calling the surgery:
- PPS number
- Middle name
- Mother’s maiden name
- Maiden name
- Eircode
Cervical Screening Programme ID number (found on your letter from Cervical Check or at cervicalcheck.ie.)
Note: It is recommended that smear tests be conducted mid-cycle. Smear tests cannot be done during menstruation (periods).
FREE CONTRACEPTION SCHEME
The HSE will cover costs for 17-35 year old’s in relations to these services:
- Pill Check
- Mirena Coil discussion/insertion/removal
- Implanon discussion/insertion/removal
- Depo Injection
Individuals outside of these age ranges may be entitled to free or subsidised care if in possession of a GMS card. Please enquire at reception.
Please note any other non contraceptive issues discussed in a consultation will not be covered.
Please note Copper coil prescriptions from pharmacies are currently not covered under this scheme
